Around the world, ecological crimes often remain hidden—silent scars on ecosystems and communities. Sonic Sentinels is a global volunteer project dedicated to monitoring these unseen violations through the power of sound. By capturing and analyzing environmental soundscapes, we can detect disturbances, alarms, and signs of ecological harm that might otherwise go unnoticed.

As a Sonic Sentinel volunteer, you become part of a network that listens attentively to diverse environments—from forests and wetlands to urban green spaces—helping to reveal the impact of illegal activities such as deforestation, pollution, wildlife trafficking, and habitat destruction.

Your role is vital: collecting field recordings, supporting sound analysis, sharing findings, and raising awareness through creative storytelling and communication. By turning natural soundscapes into compelling alerts and advocacy tools, you help communities and authorities respond faster and protect vulnerable ecosystems.

What volunteers do:

• Monitor designated ecological sites by recording and documenting environmental sounds that signal potential threats.
• Assist in analyzing and interpreting acoustic data to detect signs of ecological crimes or disturbances.
• Craft engaging stories, visual content, and campaigns that communicate the urgency of protecting ecosystems through sound-based evidence.
• Support education and advocacy by sharing insights with local communities, policymakers, and environmental organizations.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team united by a shared commitment to ecological justice and sonic awareness.
